Stuck in a Rut? 3 Common Pitfalls That Will Keep You There

By Anthony D Carter
Pitfall #1- Complacency. If you rest on your laurels you will eventually become miserable. It may take 10 years or it may take 20, but eventually an attitude of being satisfied will catch up with you. We are created to be goal striving individuals and if we are not trying to do, be, or have more then we eventually become unhappy.

Solution: Always keep at least one goal in front of you. Try to have a reason for getting up everyday. Strive to have something more than you have had in the past. Try to do something more than you have done in the past. If you are consistently attempting to hit your goals on a daily basis then you will avoid getting stuck in the same old mundane routines.

Pitfall #2- Associations.
Who you associate with can have a huge impact on the quality of your life. If you consistently keep company with people who don’t want the same things out of life that you do then sooner or later you will not want those things either. Associating with negative complaining people can drain your excitement and initiative. Spending large amounts of time with the wrong types of people can stifle your success.

Solution: Associate with people who you would like to be like. Also befriend people who look up to you and respect. One the best ways to insure your success at doing something is to find someone who has done it and get them to teach you how to do it. Positive uplifting people inspire you and encourage you. Associating with people who are moving on in life will compel you to do the same. Your desire to grow and improve will be enhanced by befriending someone who is already succeeding.

Pitfall #3- Belief. Whether you believe you can or you believe you can’t you are right. Henry Ford said that. If you believe you are destined to stay right where you are then you will continue to stay stuck. If you believe it is too hard to change then you will never change.

Solution: Seek out examples of people who have done what you want to do and then duplicate what they have done. Read as many success stories as you can get your hands on and let them inspire you to reach higher. Reading biographies of successful people will do wonders for your belief. So often they came from bad situations but still they rose above the circumstances and left their mark on the world.
