Procrastination – Three More Ways to Defeat It

By Anthony D Carter

Reward Yourself. Whatever gets rewarded gets repeated. In order to form new tendencies reward yourself whenever you take action without waiting. You will eventually eliminate the habit of procrastinating. That habit will be replaced with a desire to use initiative in order experience the good feelings that come with your reward.

Keep It Going. When you get momentum don’t stop. Develop a rhythm with what you are doing. Try to take action on three or four task in a row. Each time you take action immediately rather than putting it off until later you ingrain the desired habit into your personality. You will eventually become a person of action. Procrastination will actually become uncomfortable to you.

Have Fun. Make a game of taking action. When you take the initiative to get an important task done have fun with if. Treat the action like it is part of a bigger game. See yourself as being in the process of winning the contest as a result of the actions that you are taking.

Often after doing something that I know I should do I will say, “Yes!!” That display of excitement is a signal to my self image that I made a great move. That is my way of celebrating the fact that I took action.
